Stag Cricket believes that amateur players should have access to the same products that professional players have – but for a reasonable price.

Stag Cricket was established in August 2020 by Matt Carter and John Karassellos to give cricketers at every level access to the best quality equipment possible. Our brand has created an extensive range of high quality cricket bats, tailored to meet different needs.

Roe Stag: Silver and black stickers with diamond features. A good all-round bat with slightly less wood that possesses a lower middle – ideal for batters who like to play off the front foot.

Sika Stag: Green and black stickers with diamond features. A full profile bat: we see it as a bit of a monster, the larger middle offering up plenty of big hits.

Red Stag: With a scalloped profile, the Red Stag has garnered popular interest because of a lighter pick-up. While it has less wood around the middle, its generously thick edges provide plenty of power.

All bats are available in Short Handle. LH, SB, LB available on request. Weights range from 2lb 7oz to 3lb 2oz.

Roebuck Stag: Black and blue stickers with diamond features. The Roebuck is scalloped to provide a light and even pick-up for junior players.

Stag also has a range of pads and gloves, Sika and Roe, available in Test and County grades, as well as wicketkeeping kit, cricket bags (wheelies and duffles) and cricket clothing, and a range of other equipment.

To ensure clubs can shore up their teams with quality equipment, we also offer a Club Fund Building package to all cricket clubs: a 10 per cent rebate on all Stag equipment purchased by the club and members, and five per cent on all Stag clothing on the same basis.

Stag Simulator

In addition to quality equipment, one of our most innovative offers is the forthcoming cricket simulator, which we hope will help people of all levels keep active even during ongoing social distancing restrictions.

Stag has signed a deal with Bat Fast – a Nottingham-based cricket simulator – for a cricket simulator to be installed into Stag HQ in mid-March 2021.

In selecting Bat Fast as a partner, we went to Nottingham several times to try out the simulator. Matt was spun into knots facing Pakistan leggie Yasir Shah (videos available on Instagram @stagcricket).

The beauty of the machine is that it can use both soft and hard balls, and will allow customers – when booked for a soft ball session – to turn up without any equipment. They can borrow a bat and have a hit for 30 mins for £12. In that 30 mins slot they will face around 100-120 balls; that’s more than the average village cricketer faces on a weekend afternoon! This will appeal to former cricketers who don’t have the time for a full afternoon of cricket. And if you’re out facing up against Yasir Shah or Pat Cummins, you don’t have to go back to the pavilion – you can keep batting until your 30 mins is up!

The simulator programme can be altered mid-session: you could start facing Jimmy Anderson, take on a few overs against Sunil Narine and then finish trying to keep out the express pace of Mitchell Starc.

The hard ball function will appeal to the amateur cricketer and pros who want a focused training session with the replication of a bowler running into bowl. The setting can focus on different lines, lengths, movement and pace. It is an ideal training tool, and Stag will offer batting coaching in conjunction with simulator slots.

Simulator slots will be bookable from March 2021 at www.stagcricket.co.uk. One off slots £12 for 30 mins. Five sessions (30 mins each) per month membership £40/month and 12 sessions (30 mins each) per month £60/month

Stag Ambassadors

We are delighted to have a number of outstanding players as Stag Ambassadors in 2021. Gudakesh Motie is our first-ever ambassador, a left-arm spinner who has played for West Indies U19 and plies his trade for Guyana at first-class level. In just 29 matches he has racked up 100 first-class wickets at a lowly average of 20.54. We’re hoping we can get him over to play for a Kent League club in Summer 2022 as he chases his ambition of representing the West Indies’ senior side.

Other Stag Ambassadors include:

Jomel Warrican: The West Indies left-arm spinner has played eight Tests and has 261 first-class wickets to his name.

Akshaya Persaud: A hard-hitting left-handed batsman, Akshaya is an exciting up-and-coming batsman in the Caribbean who has played first-class cricket for Guyana and is pushing for a contract at this year’s Caribbean Premier League.

Nial Smith: A rapid fast bowler for Guyana, Nial loves to shatter the stumps. He enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2020, taking 20 wickets for Guyana in the first seven first-class matches of his career.

Muktar Ali: Dubbed Bangladesh’s version of Australian quick Ryan Harris, Muktar is a genuine all-rounder who bowls a heavy ball and can smash the ball out of the park. He is currently playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 for Maratha Arabians.

We are also hoping to secure some home-grown Stag Ambassadors who play for Kent age-group squads and our local club, Linton Park Cricket Club.

The Stag Cricket Foundation

Matt and John recently set up The Stag Cricket Foundation to help people from less privileged backgrounds gain access to kit and playing opportunities at clubs.

The Foundation has recently appointed ex-Kent County Cricket Club Women’s captain Jenni Jackson as director. A high-quality coach, Jenni will help us to set up the programme and protocols for the foundation as well as help to find an ambassador with strong ties to Kent. Through the Stag Foundation we hope to provide access to free cricket for those that need it the most. We will be coaching girls, boys, men and women in an inclusive environment and hope to include as many people as possible. Fundraising for The Stag Cricket Foundation will begin in February 2021.

As part of The Stag Cricket Foundation, we have partnered with Batting for a Chance, a charitable company run by the impressive and incredibly generous 16-year-old Will Gaffney. Will shares the same belief as the wider Stag brand and the Stag Cricket Foundation that no matter who you are, you should have access to cricket and cricket equipment for the love of the game and for the benefit of sport and the improvement of physical and mental health. Sport is a huge part in helping mental health and it’s something we believe wholeheartedly in.

In line with the sponsoring of our Stag Ambassadors in the Caribbean, Stag and Batting for a Chance are planning kit drops in the Caribbean over the coming months and year. As part of this, Stag and Batting for a Chance’s partner Pro Sport Caribbean will help to distribute kit to the Caribbean nations to the people in most need of kit/equipment who don’t have the money to buy it. Kwik Cricket sets, balls, tennis balls, hardballs and bats amongst other equipment.

The Stag Foundation over Summer 2021 will be leading, with another partner CM Cricket based near Stamford, collection of unwanted/used cricket kit. Anybody wishing to donate cricket kit can contact Matt at [email protected] to arrange collection.
