‘This is my last resort’ – David Warner puts out public statement as Baggy Green goes missing
David Warner‘s Baggy Green has gone missing ahead of his farewell Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Warner, who is set to appear in his last Test match for Australia starting tomorrow (January 3), posted a video on his Instagram account detailing how his Baggy Green cap went missing from his backpack during the flight from Melbourne to Sydney.
Warner had made it clear mid-way through 2023 that the Sydney Test against Pakistan will be his last. Two days ahead of the game, he also announced his retirement from ODIs. However, on the eve of his farewell Test, Warner appears to have lost his Baggy Green cap.
In the video posted on Instagram – a “last resort” – Warner appeals to whoever took the cap to return it. “This is my last resort, but my backpack, which contained my Baggy Green, has been taken from my luggage, which was transported to Melbourne airport and flown on Qantas to Sydney a few days ago.
“Qantas have said they checked their cameras and have not seen anyone open our bags and take the backpack, however they do have blind spots.
“If you are the person, who was either working for the company driving it to and from the airport or working for Qantas and have, by chance, just wanted the backpack, I have one for [you]. I would be grateful if this were returned asap. Thanks.”
Warner added that the Baggy Green was sentimental to him, particularly given he is about to set field in a Test match for the final time in his career and wouldn’t mind exchanging his backpack for it.
“It’s sentimental to me and something that I’d love to have back in my hands, walking out there come this week. If it’s the backpack that you really wanted, I have a spare one here. You won’t get into trouble. Please reach out to Cricket Australia or myself via social media and I’m happy to give this [backpack] to you if you return my Baggy Greens,” Warner said.
