Watch: Carlos Brathwaite, making a return to cricket after a long injury layoff, fell for a golden duck in his appearance for Knowle & Dorridge CC in a Birmingham & District Premier League clash.

Facing Leamington CC on an overcast afternoon in Dorridge, the 33-year-old Brathwaite turned his arm over for the first time since sustaining a shoulder injury during the BBL last November. Playing his second game of the season, the 2016 T20 World Cup winner was employed as the sixth bowler with Leamington batting first, going wicketless for 31 runs in four overs during the 50-over fixture.

Chasing 228, Brathwaite came in at No.5, with the team having slipped to 76-3 at the start of the 18th over. It wasn’t a long stay though: his very first ball from spinner Dinuk de Silva was a long hop, and Brathwaite tried to give it a proper whack to the leg side. He failed to middle his shot however, only succeeding in offering a chance to deep midwicket. A catch in the deep sent him back for a golden duck.

Brathwaite’s day only got worse: on Sunday, he revealed through a tweet that his car was also stolen.
