Watch: KL Rahul slams Gerald Coetzee for huge six to bring up ‘fantastic’ hundred in Boxing Day Test
Watch: KL Rahul reached his eighth Test century in style, pulling Gerald Coetzee for a huge six over mid-wicket on day two of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion on the second day of the Boxing Day Test match, in Centurion.
Starting day two unbeaten on 70, Rahul took just 28 deliveries on the morning of the second day (December 27) to reach his eighth Test hundred, smashing Coetzee for a six over the leg-side, his fourth of the innings.
Rahul became the second wicketkeeper from India to score a Test century in South Africa, after Rishabh Pant’s hundred at Cape Town in the previous tour.
Having come to bat at No.6, only for the second time in his Test career after his very first innings in the format nine years ago, Rahul expertly handled the tail to take India to a respectable total of 245.
Kagiso Rabada was the destroyer-in-chief for South Africa, taking 5-59. Sunil Gavaskar, in the Hindi commentary box when Rahul hit the six to reach hundred, said that he would rate this in the top ten individual centuries scored by an Indian in Test cricket, ever.
This is Rahul’s second consecutive Test hundred at this venue, having also hit one here in the previous tour of South Africa.
